Teaching and Scholarly Interests:
Professor Beidler has been on the faculty of Agnes Scott College since 1992 and teaches drawing, printmaking, painting and book-arts. She is particularly interested in inspiring students to find intersections between their creative work and engagement within the other academic disciplines.
Her studio work includes prints, drawings, mixed-media paintings and artist books. In her ongoing Body/Text Project, she creates large scale figural prints and drawings that explore personal transformation. The focus of her most recent studio project is based in the Buddhist sensibility found in poems such as those of, the Chinese T’ang Dynasty poet Han-shan. Many of her images are developed from her photographs of Asian gardens, temples, and street scenes, as well as from her prints, drawings, collected materials and found images. In much the same way that a garden or temple gateway invites exploration and evokes ancient places or distant memories, her sequential works are like pages or visual maps and become gateways to new thoughts and images.
Professional Activities:
Beidler’s work has been selected for inclusion in exhibitions throughout the United States and internationally. Some of her exhibitions include, An Exhibition of Artist’s Books, Flaxman Library, School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Multiple Hemispheres exchange exhibitions Argentina and the USA; New Dialogues: Women Printmakers Invitational at Wellesley College; Stories From Her, Department of Cultural and Visual Studies at Rochester, New York.
She has been a visiting artist at a number of colleges and universities including Rollins College in Florida; Tulane University in New Orleans; and Seoul Women’s University in Korea.
Her work is in private and public collections including those of Auburn University, the Wiregrass Museum in Alabama, the Kennedy Museum of Ohio University, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
